Solar Post Installation Equipment - Auger, Top Hammer, DTH & GPS (Video)

Posts for solar panels at large solar power plants are usually installed with compact piling and drilling rigs. The mast can accommodate different tools and attachments depending on the soil conditions and required installation method.

In driveable soil, direct post driving with a top hammer is usually the fastest and most economical method.
In dense or compact soil, pre-drilling with a rotary head and flight auger may be required before driving the post.
In very hard soil or rock, DTH drilling with a down-the-hole hammer, rotary head and air compressor of adequate capacity may be necessary.

For large solar projects, a semi-automatic GPS positioning system can considerably improve productivity and installation accuracy. The system guides the rig to the required horizontal X and Y coordinates with an accuracy of approximately ±10 mm and automatically stops piling when the defined Z coordinate, or post depth, is reached.
IMECO Austria supports contractors in selecting the most suitable solar post installation method and equipment for the specific project and ground conditions.
